LEAL Group
BMW Model Configuration via Conjoint Analysis
The analysis of equipment preferences and willingness to pay enables data-driven optimization of vehicle configurations for different markets and target groups.
The Company
International Corporate Group – From Automotive to Energy
Based in Mauritius, the LEAL Group is a diversified corporate group active in sectors including IT, energy, engineering, logistics, and consumer goods, in addition to its automotive business. In the automotive sector, the group represents several international brands and is the official BMW importer; since 2013, it has also been active in La Réunion. The group employs approximately 1,400 people.
The Challenge
Key Elements of the Assignment:
Mauritius and La Réunion are build-to-stock markets, and car models must be ordered in advance. For BMW importers, the same question arises for every model: Which equipment options do customers expect in the respective market—and what are they willing to pay for them? IMARK is developing a methodology for the LEAL Group that answers this question systematically and can be quickly applied to other models and markets.
-
Development of a survey and analysis methodology to determine customer expectations regarding equipment options and the respective willingness to pay.
-
Methodology that is quickly adaptable to various models (1 Series, 3 Series, X5, etc.) and international markets.
-
Determination of utility values for equipment options at different levels and their influence on the purchasing decision.
-
Simulation of optimized equipment packages consisting of exterior, interior, and technology/services regarding market share and yield.
The Cornerstones of Our Approach:
To ensure a sound assessment of customer preferences, an online survey was conducted among existing customers and potential prospects.
The focus was on an Adaptive Choice-Based Conjoint Analysis (ACBC), which maps real purchasing decisions as realistically as possible. This allowed both the utility values of individual equipment features and the respective willingness to pay to be measured.
Joint selection of the vehicle model and the equipment components relevant to the respective market with the importer
Development and programming of an online survey for existing and potential BMW customers
Design and implementation of an Adaptive Choice-Based Conjoint Analysis
Calculation of utility values for individual equipment levels per equipment component
Simulation of optimal equipment combinations based on defined target metrics such as market share or yield
Modular structure of the methodology for efficient transfer to other models and markets
Results & Impact
Benefits for the LEAL Group:
The simulations provide a data-driven basis for configuring models and equipment packages—specific to markets and target groups rather than based on empirical values.
